Welcome Wakenham Language School

All languages are taught in small classes by qualified teachers, thereby achieving a balanced curriculum.

The progress of each child is followed closely, so that any weaknesses can be addressed and additional help made available to those experiencing difficulties. During term time, regular assessments are sent to parents in addition to end-of-term reports.

At least once a year, parents are invited to meet staff to discuss the progress of their children. Our ethos means that rewards for effort are taken into account as well as for achievement.

Audiovisual aids are used when appropriate, but are not considered a substitute for good teaching. The School Library is well stocked with up-to-date books. It is comfortably furnished and has strong links to many daily papers and weekly periodicals, which are provided. Each form also has a small library. The School has an impressive record of Scholarship and leavers success stories, which have been achieved in the normal course of schoolwork.

Information Technology - Computer skills are recognised as essential tools to academic learning and IT, therefore, forms an important part of the curriculum.

Art and Design Technology - Small groups are taught and greatly enjoyed by the children. An Art Room and a purpose-built Technology Room provide a wide range of opportunities including painting, clay modelling and wire figures. Even the less artistically talented find they are capable of producing exciting work.  The older pupils enjoy the facilities provided by the senior school on a weekly basis.

Drama - An important part of the curriculum and every child is encouraged to take part in a Form Play each year, either as an actor, stagehand, electrician or in scenery production. Parents are invited to all dramatic productions.

Music - A strong part of the curriculum involves music and there are Senior and Junior choirs and a School Orchestra. Many girls and boys take up playing an instrument and private tuition can be provided as an optional extra.

Sport - Full fixture lists are arranged for all age groups in the Prep. School. The main games are soccer, rugby, hockey and cricket. In the Summer, there are also athletics, tennis and rounders. Hockey and basketball are played throughout the year on the quality facilities and PE is held in the gym. We enjoy an enviable record of success in Inter-school matches.
